The collaboration track with Hypoxic gave it away - Ascend, aspiring Dutch DJ fathoming the dark and doomed corners of hardcore, is up to enter the production circuit. One won’t be surprised to find he has put as much diligence in the creation of these four tracks as he puts in the selection and mixing of his sets, either at events like Into The Darklands or on various web shows like his own Zware Kost.
A perfect and flawless addition to the Traumatic roster, Ascend is about the rhythmic, industrial side of things, thus geared at the maverick club culture he originates from. Seething with distortion and threatening samples, “Malevolent” travels from as low as 100bpm (“Sense of Dread”) up to the kicking 150bpm finale of “Necessary action, catering perfect dance floor grub for every stage of a truly malevolent evening!
